Jennifer Love Hewitt, star of CBS' hit supernatural series Ghost Whisperer, confirmed to SCI FI Wire that Camryn Manheim would join the cast as a regular, replacing Aisha Tyler, and that Jay Mohr would make a recurring appearance in the upcoming second season. "We have some new people coming, which is going to be great," Hewitt said in an interview on July 15 at the Television Critics Association summer press tour in Pasadena, Calif. "We have Camryn Manheim joining the show, which we're really excited about. And Jay Mohr [Action] is going to be on for a while. So we have really good guest stars this year. And people that are, I think, going to kind of make the cast more exciting. And it's been really good. We've been back to work for a week now." |

| Manheim (The Practice) arrives as Tylerwho played Andrea, the best friend of Hewitt's Melindadeparts, her character having appeared to die in last season's finale. "There are some changes" coming in the second season, Hewitt said. "Obviously, Melinda's world changed a lot ... in the season finale, with the supposed death of Andrea. I don't think the audience should be quite expecting what they think they're going to expect, I'll just leave it that way." |

Hewitt added that her character, who can see spirits and help them cross over, has changed since the show's pilot. "learned a lot about Melinda," she said. "I mean, Melinda really went through a lot. ... Definitely, for the first half of the season, she was just sort of this happy-go-lucky girl who was very much trying to be normal and kind of convince people that, although she had this fantastic gift, that she was really just like a very kind of humble newlywed antique store owner. As the season went on, I think that got more difficult for her to realize. I think she kind of felt overwhelmed. There [were] definitely some moments that it was hard for her marriage: ... A husband kind of watching his wife go out and sort of do this thing and be in danger is kind of tough. And by the end of the season, I think Melinda had no idea what her [life] was anymore. And neither did I for her. ... I had gotten very used to playing a character a certain way, and the last three episodes, they kind of threw me these episodes, where they were like, 'OK, we'll see what you want do with her now.' And I was like, 'Aah!' Which is fine, because that's, I think, ... very much how she felt. And now this season, ... [she's]I don't want to say jaded[but] I think she's just a little more aware that maybe her job isn't always a gift. And that'll be kind of her challenge." Ghost Whisperer returns in the fall and will air in its regular Friday timslot at 8 p.m. ET/PT. |
