Good Luck Mr. Conrad!...... |
|
by Rob Owen Pittsburgh actor David Conrad stars in CBS's "Ghost Whisperer" (8 p.m. Friday, KDKA), playing the husband of a woman (Jennifer Love Hewitt) with a knack for chatting up the dead. In the midst of its first season, the show is performing well enough that it's likely to be renewed for a second year. Conrad said he's happy with his role. "In some sense, I'm glad they're giving me less to do," he said. "Not in terms of the plot, but they're starting to figure out her husband, as a character, should say less, be more assertive, someone who reacts and thinks rather than makes jokes and one-liners." During the show's hiatus (April-July), Conrad would like to work on a small film or a play. He's also making "vague production plans" for a documentary about his high school history teacher, Tamas Szilagyi of The Kiski School in Saltsburg. "He was a world-level soccer player at 19 in Hungary, and then in 1956 Hungary revolted against the Soviets and he left, joined the American Army, became an American citizen and ended up teaching history at Kiski for 35 years," Conrad said. "He was a great teacher, devoted his life to opening people's minds, certainly mine. I always felt like I wanted to say, 'This man's a hero,' even though nobody knows him." Story: © 2006 PG
