Talking to Audrey Hepburn? There U Go!......

We recently spoke with actress Jennifer Love Hewitt, star of CBS' "Ghost Whisperer." Born in Waco, Texas, she will be 28 on February 21, 2007. Her first TV show was the Disney Channel program, "Kids Incorporated," in 1989.

Newsday: On "Ghost Whisperer," your character Melinda Gordon is able to talk with dead people. What do you like best about playing her?

Hewitt: I like that she's really kind and gentle with people. I think her gift, being able to talk to the dead, is very cool. I like that she's married; I think that's very sweet.

Has the show changed your opinion about life after death?

Absolutely. I am definitely more open to the idea that we go somewhere else, or maybe there's a Melinda Gordon who takes care of us and helps us get to the end of our journey. It's also taught me to live a little better and say more "I love you's," "I'm sorry's" and things like that, so, hopefully, I don't have too much unfinished business.

The show's co-executive is James Van Praagh, a famous psychic. Does he ever give advice on playing your character?

Yes. He's on the set once or twice a week. He's a really fascinating guy.

Has he given you a reading?

He did. I was able to talk to my grandma. I was very excited because I loved her a lot.

If you could speak to the dead, would you be freaked out or happy about it?

I think I would find it pretty cool, but at first I'd probably be more freaked out than I'd like to admit.

Audrey Hepburn. I think it would be really neat to tell her how much I look up to her. Or William Shakespeare, to ask him why he wrote "Romeo and Juliet."

What's your favorite hobby?

I love to cook, and I'm learning how to crochet.

What is your all-time favorite TV show?

"The Golden Girls." People have always told me that I'm kind of like a little old lady because I don't do a lot of very exciting things.

Where is your favorite place to vacation?

Maui in Hawaii. I'd like to go to Greece and Spain one day.
