It is a classic story with a local twist. A Bremond graduate has left small town Texas for Hollywood, and his dreams are already coming true.

Matthew Florida's success is not surprising his proud parents. From day one, they knew their son had a special gift.

"That's what he wants to do," Matthew's mother Josie Florida said. "We've never forced any of our kids to do what we wanted them to do. There were some other things we wanted him to do, but he's doing good."

After graduating from Bremond High School, Matthew went to Texas A&M University for a year, but it didn't take long for him to find his true calling.

"We packed him up, put the tarp over his pick-up and he headed off to California," Matthew's dad John Florida said.

At just 19, Matthew had been discovered. Between stints on soap operas, Matthew has booked commercials, and most recently, a major role on a prime-time show.

Friday, the local kid who stayed busy working at his parents' auto shop in Calvert, will appear on CBS's Ghost Whisperer.

"It's just Matt," John said. "It's just your son up there. Matt's always been a corker, you know. He's always goofed around."

But jokes aside, Matt has become an inspiration to other small town dreamers wanting a brush with fame.
